New Personal Learning Plan magazine distributed to all Year 10 students.

The Primary Industry Skills Council has contributed to the new eQuipd magazine which was distributed to all schools in May 2011.
 
eQUIPD is a personal interactive handbook to assist all Year 10 students with their Personal Learning Plan.

This new annual magazine has been produced by Tracy Marsh Publications for all Year 10 students, parents and teachers.

eQUIPD  will be a valuable tool, when used actively by teachers in the classroom when working on the Personal Learning Plan.

Each school was provided with enough free copies of eQUIPD for every Year 10 student and their teachers.

With a youth magazine style and fresh look, eQUIPD is designed to appeal to the Gen Z students to help them plan for their future by helping to identify possible career choices, make decisions about the subjects they will study in Years 11 and 12, VET courses, possible tertiary training, and help them to identify their goals.

eQUIPD is full of quizzes, interactive pages and career profiles on most of the top careers available in SA.

eQUIPD is a complete reference tool where we have done the hard work for the students and created a one stop shop for study options, career pathways and finding their best fit.

Through interactive quizzes and practical exercises, eQUIPD helps them determine their likes, dislikes, strengths and limitations so that they can reach a greater understanding of their personality and skills traits. For each profession the magazine showcases subject choices, skills required and personalities best suited to that working environment; while offering practical exercises, work experience options and identifying further training options. The magazine will give online links for further investigating, phone applications and twitter blogs.

Seasonal Workers for the Horticulture Industry

The Australian Government previously conducted a pilot program for Pacific Seasonal Workers to work in the Australian Horticulture Industry.  Following this pilot the Government has decided to further implement the program to provide short term seasonal labour for the Horticultural Industry where local labour supply cannot be sourced.

Memoranda of Understanding have been signed between the Australian Government and four participating Pacific Island countries; the Republic of Kiribati, the Independent State of Papua New Guinea, the Kingdom of Tonga and the Republic of Vanuatu.

Skills Occupations List

The Skills Council recently responded to the review of the Skills Occupations List.  This list is used to source skilled migrant labour to meet current and long term skill shortages.  Skills Australia who are conducting the review submitted a draft list of skilled occupations with very few relevant to the primary industries sector.  The Skills Council has provided a written submission to Skills Australia recommending that the list be broadened to include a wide range of high demand, high value occupations that are in shortage accross the industry.  To view the submission which outlines the comments and recommendations click here.
