Workforce Innovation Program

We have commenced a new Workforce Innovation Program with funding support from the Commonwealth Government (DEEWR). The Program aims to help establish local industry driven Action teams to deal with the labour and workforce development issues affecting much of the industry especially in regional areas. During 2010 and 2011 PISC will be working with a number of regions to develop improved workforce attraction and retention materials and help enterprises get the skills and labour they need.

Primary Industries VET in SACE

For the first time the new South Australian (secondary school) Certificate of Education (SACE) has a defined primary industry program that students in Years 11 and 12 can undertake as part of their SACE studies. This means that from this year there are now real options for students who are interested in working in the primary industry sector.

A number of "focus schools" will be responsible for managing the program in conjunction with other secondary schools. The opportunity is there for students to undertake their Certificate II and part of their Certificate III whilst still at school. The program offers real programmed work experiences where students can develop practical skills as part of their studies. The VET in SACE Primary Industries Program offers a wide range of options for students in different industry fields.

Integrated Assessment

The Skills Council has received funding to conduct an innovative assessment project looking at ways RTO's can work more effectively with enterprises and share the assessment and delivery load. At the core of the project is valuing the role that each enterprise plays in training and assessing employees and building reliable mechanisms for assessment between the RTO's and enterprises.
